Ecology & Environment

Ecological and environmental survey services that support planning, design and construction across rail, energy, waste, water and land development in the UK.

OSL delivers preliminary ecological appraisals, habitat surveys, protected species scoping and Japanese knotweed surveys across rail, energy, waste, water and land development. Ecological surveys for planning, from a partner that understands construction programmes.

Ecology left late becomes a programme risk. Many species surveys can only run in fixed seasonal windows, and a missed window can delay a scheme by months. We establish the ecological baseline early, alongside our engineering and site surveys, so constraints are designed around rather than discovered.

Our surveyors are trained through the Ecological Consultancy and hold certificated training in Japanese knotweed identification and surveying. All work is carried out with regard to wildlife legislation and recognised industry guidance, and where a scheme requires licensed protected species surveys, we identify that need early and build it into the survey strategy.

Ecological Survey Services

Our ecological survey services cover the full pre-construction picture, from first site walkover to planning-ready report.

Whether you need a preliminary ecological appraisal for a planning application, habitat mapping to inform design, or clarity on whether protected species or Japanese knotweed will affect your site, each service is delivered by trained surveyors and integrated with OSL's wider site survey capability.

Need an ecological survey?

The best time to involve an ecologist is before design is fixed and before the survey season closes. If you have a site or scheme in development, we can advise quickly on what ecological information you are likely to need and when.
